BREAKING: UNICAL VC Appoints Prof. Eyo Mensah as Dean of Students’ Affairs, Obal Usang as Deputy
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has appointed Prof. Eyo Offiong Mensah as the new Dean of Students’ Affairs.
Prof. Mensah, who currently serves as Director of the Bassey Andah Institute for African and Asian Studies, will be joined by Dr. Obal Usang as Deputy Dean. Dr. Usang is a former Head of the Department of Accounting.
The appointments, according to the university, will take effect from January 1, 2026, and are for a two-year tenure, running until December 31, 2028.
The development was disclosed in an official statement issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, who urged the newly appointed officers to apply their professional experience in the effective management of students’ affairs.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of efficient administration of the Students’ Affairs Division, noting that it plays a critical role in promoting productivity and maintaining a stable academic environment.
The statement further noted that the new Dean and his Deputy are expected to foster a conducive academic and social atmosphere that supports students’ learning, welfare, and overall well-being.
The appointments come shortly after the university announced the appointment of new Deputy Vice-Chancellors, a move seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen administrative leadership and improve governance across the institution.
