BREAKING: Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, Prof.  Yilwatda, Emerges New APC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was made after a stakeholders’ meeting involving Tinubu, the APC Progressive Governors Forum, and other top party leaders at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Wednesday night.

About Professor Yilwatda:

– Background: Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, to a clergy family.
– Experience: Served as APC’s Plateau governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections and was appointed as a Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2017, posted to Benue State as the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
– Professional Affiliations: Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Nigeria Society of Engineers, and Solar Society of Nigeria.

Reasons Behind the Appointment:

– Correcting Religious Imbalance: The choice of Yilwatda, a Christian, is seen as a strategic move to address the religious imbalance in the party’s national hierarchy.
– Technocratic Leadership: Analysts believe this appointment may signal a shift toward technocratic leadership, religious inclusion, and regional equity in the party, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
