Beagle News Felicitates UNICAL’s Trailblazing Vice Chancellor on Her Birthday

By Ebi COLLINS

The management of The Beagle News has joined family, friends, and admirers across the world to celebrate the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, on the occasion of her birthday.

In a goodwill message personally signed by the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Judex Okoro, on behalf of management, Prof. Obi was described as a trailblazer, an achiever of rare distinction, and a transformative leader whose tenure as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University has been etched in gold.

Dr. Okoro noted that this birthday is particularly historic, being her last as serving Vice Chancellor of the University, and provides an opportunity to reflect on her remarkable legacy.

“Under your visionary leadership,” the message read in part, “the University of Calabar has undergone tremendous transformation. From infrastructure revamp to the digitization of the University system, your impact has been indelible. You ensured the timely graduation of students, expanded academic programmes to create greater opportunities, upheld transparency, promoted academic excellence, and gave University ceremonies the global outlook they deserve.”

Beyond institutional reforms, Dr. Okoro hailed Prof. Obi’s advocacy for humanity, particularly her strong stance on the protection of the girl child against abuse and harassment. According to him, this has fostered a safer and more inclusive learning environment for all students.

“Prof. Obi, you are not only one of the finest Vice Chancellors UNICAL has ever produced but also a mentor, a mother figure, and an inspiration whose life will remain a reference point for generations,” the goodwill message further stated.

While wishing her good health, divine wisdom, and boundless joy, The Beagle News prayed that her post-tenure journey would be filled with greater exploits and that her legacy would continue to echo through the walls of the University and in the lives she has touched.

“Happy Birthday, Prof. Florence Banku Obi. Hurray!” Dr. Okoro concluded.
