Bar Eteng Backs Otu’s Second Term, Seeks Greater Investment in Human Capital

By Bassey BASSEY

Special Advisor to the governor of Cross River State on Legal Matters, Bar Utum Eteng, has expressed support for a second term for the Cross

River State governor, praising his performance in capital development while

urging stronger attention to human capital development.

Eteng, who disclosed that he had long been a critic of governments, said his perspective changed after working closely with the present administration, noting that he played role in helping to bring the government to power.

According to him, having participated in building the

administration, it would be unreasonable to oppose it destructively, stressing that criticism should now be objective and aimed at encouraging improved performance.

“I have been a critic of governments. I worked very hard to bring

forth this government. I should not be seen throwing stones in a house I participated effectively in building. My criticism now must be objective and

encourage good performance,” he said.

He commended the governor’s commitment to infrastructure and other capital projects across the state, describing the achievements as significant.

However, he identified human capital development as the major area requiring

improvement.

“The only area I think he has to improve is human capital

development. Otherwise, he has done so well to merit a second term. Within the three years, Governor Bassey Otu has carried out credible improvements on old and abandoned government facilities and structures.

“His recovery of the multimillion naira Tinnapa edifice, remodeling of the state

library complex, and the addition of more air crafts to Caly Air fleet are credit to the People First administration. With this, Governor Bassey Otu

deserve an outright adoption by other political parties as the sole /unopposed

governorship candidate for the 2027 state election.

If performance is the sole index of measuring the success of an administration..

However, my bold unequivocal charge to H.E governor is that he should march /box the much commended physical/inmates infrastructural development with an all-round real human development for man to stay alive to be part of the incoming elections. This is my very candid opinion and truth spoken in good stead.

The Special Adviser also referenced the endorsement of the

governor by the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence that

Cross Riverians would align with the party’s position to ensure continuity. He

noted that visible improvements in Calabar, including upgrades to public facilities such as the state library, reflect the administration’s impact.

Eteng further urged the electorate to grant the governor another

opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects and extend development to other

urban centres across the state. He, however, cautioned that the 2027 elections would be decisive and advised the governor to deepen engagement with citizens

to strengthen grassroots support.

“2027 is not a child’s play. It is going to be an election that

will determine the fate of this country. He should continue meeting with the

people to get to a solid ground,” he added
