Army Confirms Death of Commanding Officer, 6 Others After Foiled Boko Haram Attack in Monguno

Seven soldiers, including a Commanding Officer, have been killed after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off in Monguno, Borno State on Sunday night shortly after troops repelled a terrorist attack.  

According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, troops of Sector 3 came under an “isolated Tango terrorist attack” at Charlie 13 location in Monguno late Sunday night. 

The attackers were defeated following intense fire and fled while soldiers maintaining control of the area.  

Unfortunately, the Commanding Officer while advancing towards the troops to access the situation was killed by an Improvised Explosive device (IED) while he was driving towards the location with six other personnel. 

“The loss of this exceptional officer and the other brave personnel is deeply mourned. Their sacrifice will forever remain etched in the memory of the Armed Forces and the grateful nation they served,” Uba said.
