AKWA IBOM NUJ ELECTION: COMRADE NSIBIET JOHN EMERGES NEW CHIARMAN

Comrade Nsibiet John, publisher of _The Ink_ Newspaper, has been elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council.

Comrade John, who represents the Federated Chapel of the union, emerged victorious after polling 555 votes to defeat Comrade Nene Afia of the State Ministry of Information Chapel, 92 votes, Effiong Edet, 21 votes and Esther Effiong, 4 votes. 

They were elected during this year’s Triennial Conference held today at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo and supervised by the South South Zonal Officials of the union.

Also elected is Comrade Margaret Moore of the State Ministry of Information Chapel, who returns as Vice Chairman for a second term. 

Moore got 393 votes while his co-contenders: Mkpoikana Eno, 246 votes while Ernest Udo scored 34 votes.

Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, also of the Ministry of Information Chapel, was elected Secretary after polling 419 votes to defeat Michael Ufot with 253 votes.

Other officers elected unopposed include:
 •Comrade Udeme Hosea – Treasurer
 •Comrade Kufre Emmanuel – Financial Secretary
 •Comrade Uduak Akai – Assistant Secretary
 •Comrade Dianime Uko – Auditor

The newly elected officials succeed the Amos Etuk-led executive and will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
