Akwa Ibom Gov't Upgrades College of Education, Afaha Nsit To  University of Education

In a landmark decision aimed at strengthening the state’s educational sector, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the upgrading of the State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, to a full-fledged University of Education.

The approval was among the key resolutions reached during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held today at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo. Governor Eno emphasized that the move aligns with his administration’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and enhancing teacher training standards across the state.

The transition from a College of Education to a University of Education marks a significant milestone in Akwa Ibom’s quest to produce highly skilled educators and promote academic excellence. The new institution is expected to offer a broader range of degree programmes focused on education, research, and innovation, thereby equipping future teachers with the knowledge and competence required to meet global standards.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to developing infrastructure, recruiting qualified faculty, and ensuring the institution operates at par with other renowned universities. The establishment of the University of Education, Afaha Nsit, is projected to boost employment, foster community development, and position Akwa Ibom as a leading hub for teacher education in Nigeria.
