ADC Protest: Security Operatives Barricade INEC Headquarters in Abuja

By Ekanem Asuquo

Security operatives on Wednesday barricaded the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja as members of the African Democratic Congress staged a protest at the facility.

The demonstrators, drawn from a faction of the party, converged on the commission’s headquarters to demand recognition of their preferred leadership amid an ongoing internal crisis. They urged the electoral body to comply with a court ruling concerning the party’s leadership structure.

Clutching placards and chanting slogans, the protesters called for strict adherence to the rule of law, insisting their action was peaceful and intended to safeguard democratic principles.

In response, security personnel mounted a heavy presence around the premises, restricting access and fortifying entry points to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Despite the tense atmosphere, the protest remained orderly, with no incidents of violence recorded.

Officials of the commission acknowledged the development, though senior management members were not immediately available to address the protesters.

The situation highlights deepening divisions within the party and raises concerns over internal disputes as political activities gradually intensify.
