76 OIL WELLS: REVENUE MOBILISATION, ALLOCATION AND FISCAL COMMISSION (RMAFC) 2026 NATIONAL DATA VERIFICATION EXERCISE IN CROSS RIVER STATE

The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has commenced the 2026 National Data Verification Exercise across the Federation, including Cross River State, as part of its constitutional mandate to ensure equity, transparency, and accuracy in Nigeria's revenue allocation framework. The exercise is designed to review and validate critical socio-economic, infrastructural, and fiscal data used in determining revenue-sharing indices among states and local government

The National Data Verification Exercise seeks to:

1, Verify and update existing data used in the allocation of national revenue.

2, Ensure that revenue distribution reflects current socio-economic realities.

Strengthen fiscal federalism and promote equitable resource allocation.

3, Enhance transparency, accountability, and evidence-based policymaking.

4, Support the ongoing review of the national revenue allocation formula.

1, For Cross River State, the exercise presents a strategic opportunity to accurately showcase the state's developmental realities, infrastructure expansion, educational and healthcare facilities, internally generated revenue capacity, and other critical indices that influence revenue allocation.

2, The verification process is expected to provide an up-to-date assessment of the state's socio-economic profile, thereby strengthening its position within the national fiscal framework.

3,The exercise comes at a particularly significant period for Cross River State, following recent developments regarding its projected re-listing as an oil-producing state, a move that could further enhance the state's fiscal prospects and strengthen its contribution to Nigeria's economic development.

The 2026 National Data Verification Exercise represents a landmark national initiative aimed at reinforcing fairness, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria's fiscal system. For Cross River State, the exercise offers an opportunity to present verifiable data that reflects its growth, development aspirations, and emerging economic potential.

As Nigeria continues to pursue inclusive development and fiscal sustainability, accurate data remains the foundation upon which equitable revenue sharing, effective governance, and national progress are built.
