2027: Supporters Rally Mbora for Reps Contest

There are growing indications that former member of the House of Representatives for Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ntufam Eta Mbora, may be preparing for a return to the Green Chamber under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Political feelers within the constituency suggest that the former lawmaker has come under increasing pressure from supporters and stakeholders who believe his tenure left lasting developmental footprints that are yet to be matched in the current dispensation.

Eta Mbora represented the constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023. During his time in office, he reportedly facilitated the construction and upgrade of primary schools and primary healthcare centres, while also attracting several road projects and other intervention programmes to communities within the constituency.

Supporters pushing for his return argued that many of the empowerment and constituency intervention initiatives introduced during his tenure have gradually disappeared.

One of his loyal supporters and a strong NDC member, Itam Hogan, said the constituency has struggled to maintain the pace of development since Mbora left office.

“Since Eta Mbora left, the whole federal constituency has been in limbo. The truckloads of fertilisers and farm implements he always distributed to local farmers are now gone,” Hogan said.

“He has the experience and national network needed to project the interest of the constituency. We are tired of sending freshers who will spend the entire term learning the ropes while projects and intervention programmes are being distributed.”

Hogan further disclosed that a delegation of party faithful and constituents recently travelled to Abuja to prevail on Mbora to contest the seat again.

“We led a delegation to Abuja to ask him to pick our ticket. We want capacity and experience, not charlatans,” he added.

Efforts to get an official confirmation from Eta Mbora on his alleged ambition were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
