2027: Rep Offiono Consult Constituents, Vows Legal Action To Retain Seat

Member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono, has consulted his constituents ahead of 2027, vowing to continue to seek legal action against the primaries of All Progressives Congress (APC) that schemed him out of the contest.
Offiono decried the brazen manner the party conducted the last primaries in his federal constituency and the shabby treatment meted out to him, explaining that the primary election fell short of party members' expectations.
The MP spoke on Saturday, August 1, 2026 during a constituency dialogue at his residence in Okuku Ward, Yala local government area. The engagement attracted party executives, political appointees, stakeholders, youths, women and supporters from across the federal constituency.
Commending the constituents for standing firmly with him and reaffirmed his commitment to seeking justice, fairness and principled leadership, the lawmaker stated that he is exploring every legitimate step to ensure that justice prevails.
Offiono stated that never in the history of Cross River politics has serving MPs been treated with so much disdain that some of them were just discarded like pack of cards, maintaining that he doesn't believed in political betrayal or advancing personal ambition at the expense of others.
He recalled how he first consulted widely with the people of Ogoja/Yala before meeting with the Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, whose leadership he commended and pledged to support.
He explained that his decision to seek re-election was driven by his belief in continuity, consolidation of ongoing projects and sustained development for the constituency. adding that despite his contributions and performance, he now finds himself in a quagmire.
Seeking the people’s counsel, he asked: “What do you, my people, advise me to do at this critical moment? As always, I have come to seek your guidance because the mandate I hold belongs to the people, and it is the people who should direct me.”
In his closing remarks, Offiono said: "I appreciated the overwhelming turnout, especially those who attended despite reported attempts to discourage party executives and supporters from participating.
"I assure the gathering that every opinion and recommendation have been noted and I promise to communicate my next line of action in the coming days. I am very confident that truth, justice and the collective will of the people would ultimately prevail."
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Mr. Ikorishor from Ogoja LGA, described Hon. Offiono as a dependable and intentional leader whose performance has earned the confidence of young people across the constituency. He assured the lawmaker of the support of Ogoja/Yala youths in every lawful step to be taken.
Other stakeholders urged the MP to pursue every legitimate and legal avenue available to achieve justice.
