2027: Arthur Jarvis Lacks Capacity To Govern Cross River, Group Says
By Missang AKPET
A pro Governor Bassey Otu political support group, Neighbour2Neighbour for Sweet Prince , has said the Peoples Democratic Party's Governorship Candidate in Cross River State Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong lacks the capacity and political experience to govern Cross River State.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar on Tuesday, the Director General of the group, Hon. Bobby Ekpenyong, said Jarvis has been going around declaring that there is no government in Cross River and that the Government House is vacant.
"Jarvis has been going around declaring Cross River State Government House vacant, this press conference is to tell him that there is a sitting governor and this governor is working and the people have said, that this government is working. He is the one that provoked us to go on tour so we don't just sit and believe him but have to go and see for ourselves."
"If we were still in the military era, that his statement would have been regarded as treason by declaring a seat vacant. But we have a very God-fearing governor who doesn't talk much but believes God will speak for him," he said.
The group maintained that Cross River State cannot be used as a laboratory for political experiments.
He argued that history shows that anyone who has governed the state had shown political capacity and learned the ropes.
He maintained that the PDP candidate has neither held an office or been in a leadership position therefore lacks capacity to run the state.
"Look at the politics of Cross River State even before 1999, for you to be a governor in Cross River you must have shown political capacity, you must learn the ropes. Liyel Imoke was a senator before becoming governor, Clement Ebri was MD/CEO of Chronicle before becoming Governor, Donald Duke was a commissioner before, the last governor Prof Ben Ayade served as a senator while Prince Otu was a Rep member and senator before becoming a governor".
"You cannot come because you run a private school and you say you have experience. Governance is not a child's play, it's an insult to our sensibility for Jarvis to say he has experience to govern the state".
"Cross River State should not be a lab meant for experiments, we will not experiment with the seat of government, it is not for apprentices" he added.
