196 C'River Councillors Back Otu, Odey for Second Term
All 196 councillors from the 18 local government areas of Cross River State have thrown their weight behind Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, endorsing them for a second term in office.
The endorsement was announced on Tuesday night during the Cross River State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Calabar. According to the councillors, their decision was based on what they described as the governor’s impressive performance since assuming office.
Hon. Magdalene Ekpe, Chairman of the State Councillors Forum and Leader of the Akamkpa Legislative Assembly, moved the motion for the endorsement. She stated that councillors across the state have benefited from the administration’s support and commended the governor’s focus on grassroots governance.
Ekpe highlighted achievements such as infrastructure development, regular payment of salaries and gratuities, and the settlement of other entitlements. She noted that the councillors were satisfied with the direction of the administration.
“We have genuinely enjoyed serving under this government and we are proud of the progress made,” she said, before formally moving the motion to endorse both the governor and his deputy for another term.
The motion was seconded by the Leader of the Obudu Legislative Council, Eneji Sam Ashibi, who openly supported the call for the administration’s continuation beyond 2027.
The endorsement was subsequently adopted through a voice vote, with the majority of participants at the congress affirming their support.
