Wike is Now Inconsequential in PDP, Says Fmr Gov. Sule Lamido
AMID the crisis rocking the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state has stated that FCT Minister, and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is very inconsequential in the party at the moment.
has voiced concerns over the internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while downplaying the significance of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the party's broader history.
Lamido, who stated this in an interview with Daily Trust and shared on Facebook, called for unity to restore the PDP's strength in Nigerian politics.
Speaking on some controversies surrounding Wike, Lamido dismissed him as a 'minor figure in the context of the PDP's legacy," adding “Leave Wike alone. Wike is a very small boy in PDP history. Where was he in 1999? Everything he’s doing, he learnt from others—betrayal, treachery. But, frankly, Wike is now inconsequential."
Lamido acknowledged that disputes among members are not new, but stressed the importance of prioritising the party’s unity and core mission over personal interests, extending an olive branch to former PDP members who have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Lamido, these individuals hold crucial knowledge about the PDP's history and formation, which could be instrumental in addressing Nigeria's political and economic challenges.
“If they return, we could unify the PDP and offer a credible alternative to the APC,” he stated, emphasizing the need for collaboration among experienced party leaders to rebuild trust and restore the party’s credibility.
Lamido’s call for unity comes as the PDP continues to grapple with internal and external challenges, including defections and diminishing influence in key political zones. His remarks highlight the urgency of fostering reconciliation to position the PDP as a formidable opposition in Nigeria's political landscape.
