The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed readiness to assist with the development of a sustainable workforce for the new Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Cross River State.

Speaking during a meeting with the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk in his office in Calabar, WHO's State Coordinator, Dr Yewande Olatunji commended the efforts of the Cross River Government in building a solid foundation for health sector workforce through the establishment of four Colleges of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery.

She said WHO will partner with the Cross River State to do a needs analysis and prioritize support for the felt needs and yawning Human Resource gaps in the institutions.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ayuk, appreciated WHO for the consistent support for immunization and surveillance activities in the State, especially during the recent cholera and Lassa outbreaks.

He told the visiting WHO team that the Government of Prince Bassey Otu will continue to partner with relevant organizations towards the attainment of basic healthcare services in the state.

He welcomed WHO's innovative support promised to develop the workforce in the Colleges of Nursing Sciences, adding that such development would form the basis for further collaboration in other areas of workforce development especially the vision of the governor to develop a comprehensive College of Medicine with clinical training for the State.
