PROTEST: Akure Residents Desert Streets As Security Take Over Strategic Locations
From Olawole OGUNLEYE (Lagos)
Today Streets in Akure, the Ondo State capital this morning, witnessed scanty human and vehicular movements as residents awaited the commencement of the much anticipated hunger protest nationwide.
Radio Nigeria reporter, who monitored the situation from Oda road-Shoprite roundabout-NEPA through Arakale via Isikan reports that shops were locked with security operatives in strategic locations to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
The roads also recorded low turnout of commercial motorcycles, tricycles, and taxis even as banks on the axis did not open for business.
Some business owners were seen sitting in front of their shops while some were seen in a discussion mood.
Men of the Nigeria Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC as well as Amotekun were strategically placed while some were on patrol of different axis within the Akure metropolis.
