Prof. Emmanuel Ekuri Appointed UNICAL's Institute of Education New Director

An erudite Professor of Educational Management, Research and Evaluation, Prof. Emmanuel Ekuri has been appointed as the new Director of the Institute of Education at the University of Calabar.
This was made known in a release issued by the Public Relations Unit, as signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe, in Calabar on Thursday, March 28th, 2024.
This appointment comes as the institution seeks to bolster its leadership in the field of education and research and is for a period of two years in the first instance and takes effect from Monday, April 1, 2024.
Others whose appointments were also approved by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, include Dr. Jerry Tawo, who now serves as the New Admission Officer for the Open and Distance Learning Centre; Prof. Patrick Egaga as Chairman of the Students Welfare Board; and Prof. Vincent Osabor, who also serves as Director of the Academic Publishing Centre.
He joined the services of the University in 1998 as Lecturer II and rose to through the ranks to be promoted Associate Professor in 2015. He holds a B.Sc. (Ed) degree in Chemistry Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1988), M.Ed. 1991 and Ph.D (2007) degrees Educational Evaluation at the International Centre for Educational Evaluation (ICEE), Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.
He previously worked as a Lecturer at the former Lagos State College of Education, Ijanikin (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos), where he taught Basic Statistics, Tests and Measurement, and Research Methods.
In July 2011, he was appointed as a Sabbatical Fellow at the renowned African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) in Nairobi, Kenya. During his tenure, he contributed as a committed team member to the Educational Research Programme in Proposal Development for Grants Sourcing and Management of Research Grants. He is currently, the Pioneer Coordinator, Graduate School Resource Development Unit Inc., University of Calabar.
Prof. Ekuri brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of education, having served in various capacities within academia. His appointment is viewed as a strategic move to further enhance the institute's reputation and advance its mission of excellence in teaching and research.
With a proven track record of academic leadership and a deep commitment to educational development, he is poised to lead the Institute of Education into a new era of innovation and growth. And, as Professor of Educational Research and Evaluation, he is also expected in his new responsibilities to explore avenues for securing external funding and forging strategic partnerships to support the University of Calabar Research Initiatives.
