Police Officer killed, 2 Chinese Nationals Abducted as Gunmen Attack Quarry Site in Cross River

A police inspector has been shot dead In a tragic incident which occurred at the Marksino quarry camp in Akankpa local government area of Cross River state on Thursday evening.

Armed men who were said to be dressed in military camouflage attacked the quarry camp, killing the police officer and carted away his AK-47 rifle while abducting 2 Chinese nationals and a Nigerian worker.

The attack occurred at the Marksino quarry camp in Akamkpa Local Government Area. Armed men, believed to be dressed in military camouflage, invaded the site, taking the life of the officer and stealing his AK-47 rifle.

A statement by the zone 6 police command signed by the Zone six Police PRO, SP Nelson Okpabi confirmed the incidence stating that the abductors entered the premises after a civilian worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate.

He confirmed the death of one police inspector and the abduction of 2 Chinese nationals and a Nigerian though names of the victims were not stated.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone Six, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has immediately ordered search for the armed attackers, assuring that there must be brought to book.

He however expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer while assuring the public that efforts to locate and capture the attackers is in top gear.

Towery urged anyone with helpful information to come forward, as efforts intensify to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped individuals and bring those behind this crime to justice.
