NDE Trains, Resettle 5,532 Youths, Women Nation Wide - DG

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has successfully trained and resettled a total of five thousand five hundred and thirty-two (5,532) Nigerians under her Renewed Hope Employment Initiative, according to its Director General, his Excellency, Mr. Silas Agara.   

He disclosed this today in Calabar, during the resettlement/closing ceremony of the agency’s skills acquisition programme which commenced across Nigeria, in December, 2024.

Represented by the Cross River state acting coordinator of the agency, Mr. Anthony Moloa, the DG said the programme was designed to create employment opportunities among Nigerian youths, women and the physically challenged persons. 

The Beagle news reports that the programme was anchored on three core pillars including skills development, resettlement and job creation.

 “The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative is designed to create employment opportunities, support the establishment of small-scale enterprises, promote agricultural productivity, improve rural infrastructure and provide transient jobs, which would in-turn foster economic growth and empower our communities. 

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative commenced with a Flag-Off Ceremony on 6th December, 2024, while training of selected beneficiaries started on 9th December, 2024.

 “Over the past 3 months, the Directorate has successfully trained Thirty-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety-Two (33,692) unemployed Nigerian youths, women and Persons Living with Disabilities in-demand skills across Vocational Skills training, Entrepreneurship and business management training, Agricultural Skills Training and activities within the Public Works sector in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. 

"This initiative has culminated into the launching of resettlement of the trained beneficiaries, the goal of which is to empower participants to become not only self-employed but employers of labour. A total number of Five Thousand Five Hundred and Thirty-Two (5,532) beneficiaries will be resettled with loans and starter packs nationwide to enable the establishment of their own businesses”, his address read in part.

Also speaking at the event, the coordinator of National Productivity Centre in Cross River state, Mr. Emeka Okoli, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the resettlement tools given to them.He said much was expected from the two hundred and sixty one (261) beneficiaries in the state in their respective business endeavors as well as towards the growth of the local economy, having gone through a rigorous training on effective business management and the eventual resettlement. 

Highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of cash as well as various resettlement items including sewing machines, pressing irons, hair drying machines among others to the beneficiaries.

In a vote of thanks, a representative of the beneficiaries, Agnes Arop, thanked the Federal Government for the economic empowerment through the NDE, promising to make good use of the items. 

The occasion was also graced by the state director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. John Asanye, a representative from office of the SA to Cross River state governor on youth development, a representative from NDE headquarters; Mrs. Blessing Owan among others.
