Our Lives Are Under Threats, Family Of Civil Rights Activist Cry Out

The family of a civil rights activist,Mrs Udeme Imeh Umoh has berated security operatives in Nigeria for their inability to unmask those behind the perennial threats to their lives despite investigations spanning almost four years.

According to the family:" The ordeals we have been subjected to resulting from the constant threats from unknown gunmen have disrupted our normal family life, forcing us to pepertually go under ground for the safety of our lives."

Husband of the civil rights crusader, Imeh Umoh who spoke with our reporter said"We are pepertually on the run for our dear lives, the recent protest against bad governance in Nigeria gave the unknown gunmen the leverage to storm my home again under the guise that my wife is amongst those suspected of sponsoring the protests."

"During the invasion, their voices sounded familiar but I couldn't pick a face since they are always masked and usually invade my home at night, whenever I am around. My wife and children can't stay with me any longer because of this agonising episodes."

"Personally, I am traumatized. I can't sleep in my own home peacefully. That's why I am always on the road for a safe abode" He lamented.

Findings revealed that Mrs Udeme Umoh has been at loggerheads with both security operatives in Nigeria for raising concerns over human rights violations and extra judicial killings of vulnerable Nigerians allegedly pepertuted by the government security forces especially in major security flash points around the country.

Also, her campaigns mounting pressure on the Nigerian state to recognize the right of ethnic nationalities for self determination as expressed in the agitations for the Biafran Republic has pitched her against the authority.

Investigations revealed that human rights crusaders found to be in the forefront condemming the harrassments and intimidations adopted by government in hunting those in support of the movement for the emergence of Biafra are been targeted for constantly sought out by the authority for interrogations.

The development has resulted in several raids on her home in Calabar and Akwa Ibom by state actors for unspecified mission.

Police authorities confirmed that the matter has been under investigation for over four years but no arrest has been effected so far.
