MTN CHAMPS SEASON 2: Gov. Otu Commends MTN, Says Partnership Will Unveil World Champions

Cross River governor, Senator Bassey Otu has expressed optimism that the ongoing MTN Champs Season 2 Athletics competition in Calabar will produce a future generation of athletes who will dominate the global athletic stage shortly.

According to Otu, "the synergy struck between this administration and Telecom service provider, MTN in the grassroots sports development drive will produce future stars with the capacity to dominate the athletic stage globally in a short while from now."

Governor Otu stated this when he flagged off the second edition of the grassroots talent hunt athletic competition known as MTN Champs Season 2 at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar.

Senator Otu, who was represented by the state deputy governor, Rt Hon Peter Odey lauded the Telecom giant for the choice of Calabar as the host city for the championship.

According to him, the competition is apt and timely. It's also in tandem with our administration's sporting agenda as grassroots sports as the pathway for restoring our eroding glory in the sporting arena.

He applauded the commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu for her proactive posture and unwavering commitment toward restoring the lost glory of the state in the sports sector.

Speaking, MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Adia Sowho expressed appreciation to the state for warmth hospitality, commitment, and effective synergy demonstrated in ensuring a smooth event.

She disclosed that MTN will always remain committed to liaising with the government in providing an enabling environment for youths to discover their hidden potential, especially in sports as well as other fields of human endeavours.

She explained that such cooperate social responsibility, apart from giving back to society is also intended to support job creation initiatives of the government and positive engagement of the teeming youths in search of livelihood.

In her remarks, Cross River Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Agnes Atsu assured MTN of adequate logistic assistance to guarantee a hitch-free competition.

She expressed the state’s readiness to host the subsequent edition of the grand finale of MTN CHAMPS, maintaining that the state is disposed towards effective collaboration for optimum exploration of the state's rich potential in sports.

“We have one of the best facilities in the country in track and field. We promise you a serene environment and a hitch-free event. This administration is open to more collaboration and partnership,” she said.
