Hon. Godwin Ofiono Calls For Rehabilitation Of Bekwara Ikom Calabar Federal Highway

Member representing Ogoja/Yala in the Federal House of Representatives Hon. Godwin Ofiono, has moved a motion on "The Need to rehabilitate the Bekwarra-Ogoja-Ikom-Calabar Federal Highway.

The federal legislator who moved the motion on the floor of the house during plenary on Thursday said the road is one of the major roads that connects Southern Nigeria to the Northern part of the country. 

He noted that it has been in a deplorable state for long making it challenging for vehicles to transport both perishable and non-perishable goods. 

According to him, "the road has not witnessed any significant rehabilitation since its construction in the 1970s".

"I urged the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), to provide palliative means on the road to ease movement of goods and services" he said.

The House houwever referred the motion to the Committees on Works and Federal Roads Maintenance Agency(FERMA), for legislative compliance.
