Health Outreach: Health Commissioner Assures Of Strict Monitoring, Quality Assessment, Effective Utilisation

By Kingsley Agim

Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk has assured that support from the recently flagged-off First Lady's Health Outreach across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State will be under the eagle eyes of the government to ensure that the desired objective of getting healthcare to ordinary Cross Rivererians is achieved.

The Commissioner who spoke to journalists after the flag-off of the Wife of the Governor, Rev. (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu's Health Outreach, held at Henshaw Town Primary Health Centre, Calabar, directed the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and Health Facility Managers to ensure strict monitoring and quality assessments of medical supplies and funds allocated for the betterment of Cross Rivererians and residents of the State.

Inspecting the Primary Health Centre, Henshaw Town alongside Rev. Otu, Dr Ayuk tasked the State Primary Health Development Agency and all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in the state to show evidence of quality service delivery for the funds being allocated, while reiterating Governor Bassey Otu-led administration's determination to improve public finance management and remove leakages and fraud from primary health services in the State.

He told the Wife of the Governor and health stakeholders that government is in cognizance of funds that flow to primary healthcare regularly and will not tolerate mismanagement in whatever form.

"We will jointly develop work plans for each PHC centre according to their respective needs and scrutinize implementation. We expect the supervision to be prudent and set example for others to follow," the Commissioner assured.

Dr. Ayuk also lauded the First Lady's decision to intervene in the healthcare needs of the common masses, stating that such support lends further impetus to the present administration's policy of making quality healthcare accessible to all.
