Former aide to President Buhari and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has charged Governor Bassey Otu to exert his leadership abilities intelligently his bid to reposition Cross River State.
The outspoken politician made the call on his today's broadcast on his verified social media platforms.
Obono-Obla who acknowledged that the Otu-led administration's one month in office has been hallmarked with the "right decisions to lay a foundation for him (Otu) to effect change in the entire superstructure of the State's administrative and political governance," charged the governor to "continue to take robust, bold and courageous decisions that will deepen the change we all desire and yearn for the State to revamp, rejuvenate and reform the public service of the State and restore it to its previous glorious years."
The Ugep-born politician and legal luminary commended governor Otu for the bold decision to cancel what he described as the "opaque Cally Air Concession agreement" with Areo Contractors and also the constitution of a Committee to take inventory of concessionaire agreements entered with various concessionaires to manage industries belonging to the State government.
The former aide to the president quipped that there is a great sense of optimism and hope by the people of the State that the Otu-led administration will certainly herald positive changes and effective governance, being a man of great administrative skills, experience and deep political conviction spanning many decades in banking, public administration and legislative representation, tasking the 7th democratically elected Governor of the state to repay the masses'trust on him with policies, programmes and projects that will impact positively on the generality of the citizenry.
The lawyer also drew the governor's attention to the need to "reform, reposition and reorganise the All Progressives Congress (APC) to redress the injustice and marginalization of certain groups and tendencies within it."
He noted, with dismay, that the recent directives by the State executive committee that wards should make nomination for possible candidates for appointments and empowerment is fracturing the party, adding that it is a known fact that a certain political interest group within the Party has in its grip the commanding control of levers of power and constitute the dominant tendency within the party. "This is dangerous for the Governor and the Party," he feared.
"Therefore the Governor must quickly endeavour to ensure that he takes control of the lever of power within the party to enable him have a firm grip of the structures of the party as its leader.
"This will arm the Governor with the weaponry to enable him reform the party and redress the marginalization of certain tendencies and groups within the Party. There has to be balance of power and access by all tendencies and wings in the party to ensure unity and cohesion," Obono-Obla implored.
