Fmr HoS To Fubara, Nwaeke, Consistently Begged For Money To Build House — Ehie

Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, repeatedly sought financial assistance from the governor due to his dire financial situation.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ehie claimed that Nwaeke reached out to Fubara for monetary support, citing his inability to secure proper accommodation within the city.
According to Ehie, Nwaeke’s financial struggles led him to make desperate appeals for assistance, particularly after his resignation from office.
The revelations come amid a heated political controversy in Rivers State, where Nwaeke recently accused Fubara and Ehie of orchestrating the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex in October 2023.
Ehie strongly refuted the allegations, dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated. He suggested that Nwaeke’s financial difficulties had made him susceptible to manipulation by political adversaries seeking to destabilize the Fubara administration.
In the interview, Ehie emphasized that Nwaeke’s claims should not be taken seriously, arguing that his financial desperation compromised his credibility.
He alleged that Nwaeke had been actively seeking ways to align himself with powerful figures in exchange for financial gain. To support his claim, Ehie presented evidence of conversations in which Nwaeke purportedly solicited financial help shortly after stepping down from his role as the state’s Head of Service.
He said: "Yes. He was appealing to the Governor to give him money, saying he was packing out of the official residence and had no house to live in within the town. He said he had no money and should not be abandoned. Look at what happened. Yesterday, he deleted some messages, not knowing that I had already munched them, which I later shared online."
