The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that its efforts with the military have witnessed the further release of another female Prospective Corps Member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year.

This brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) released to five out of eleven while efforts are ongoing to ensure that the remaining three (one female and two males) still in captivity regain freedom soonest.

A release by the Director, Press and Public Relations , Eddy Megwa qoutes the D-G NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed as saying,“... we appreciate the security agents for their untiring efforts that resulted in the release of the PCMs. The Scheme will never shirk its responsibility of upholding the welfare of Corps Members at all times."

It will be recalled that the NYSC members were kidnapped by suspected terrorists on their way to camp in Zamfara State in August 2023.

It was learnt that the corps members were travelling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State, for the one-year mandatory national youth service, when their vehicle was intercepted by the hoodlums.

They were eleven corps members including the driver, but three of them escaped during the terrorists’ attack.

In October, NYSC had announced the rescue of one of the abducted female prospective corps member, meaning that atleast four of the kidnapped corps members are still in the kidnappers custody.
