Education Commissioner Assumes Office, Promises To Reposition Sector

The newly sworn-in Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, has assumed office with an assurance to reform and reposition the education sector of the State.
Senator Odey who made this known while addressing management staff of the ministry in Calabar stated that the Education sector will also be upgraded to conform with international standard.
The Commissioner who described Education as the fulcrum that galvanizes every other sector of the economy, Sen. Odey charged staff to brace themselves to the daunting task of setting new standards in the sector to improve teaching and learning of the citizens of the State.
While warning against truancy, he enjoined management and staff to be proactive and align with his transformation agenda, noting that all hands must be on deck for the growth and development of the education sector in the State.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Aniedi Ekpeyong applauded the Commissioner for the good works he did with the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), pledging their unalloyed support for the overall success of the Ministry and the present administration's mandate of the sector. She promised that they will all partner with him to transform the ministry and bring make it at par with the best around the world.
The Permanent Secretary informed that currently, the Ministry is working on the release of placement examinations to enable children resume Junior Secondary Schools.
The Director of Education Resource Centre, Mr Francis Onyije stated that the Ministry is lucky to have Senator Stephen Odey, describing him as an expert in the sector. He intimated the Commissioner of the place of the Ministry since the dissolution of the previous board.
