Ebonyi: Amuda Effium Begs Nwifuru For Autonomous Community

From Omaka  OKOH (Abakaliki)

The people of Amuda Effium community in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State have appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to consider granting them autonomous community.

The community under the aegis of Amuda Effium Concerned Youths(AECY) at a press conference held in Abakaliki at the weekend, said  granting autonomous community to them will ensure fairness, unity and progress.

The Secretary General of the group, Mazi Lisele Ichanga, who spoke on behalf of the community, commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his tireless efforts in ensuring the return of permanent peace in Effium community.

He assured that Amuda will continue to support the Governor and his efforts to ensure speedy return of peace in the troubled Effium community.

He said: "We commend Gov. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for
his one year of huge and massive infrastructural development in Ebonyi
state within this short time.

"It is no longer news that His Excellency inherited the Ezza Effium/Effium Autonomous Community crises in Ohaukwu local government of
Ebonyi state.

"The crises that started since January 2021 up till this
moment, he has been putting all his effort and knowledge by ensuring that permanent peace return to Effium land by setting up different
committee including Bishop Michael Okoro led committee to help him in proffering lasting solution in Effium land. Although, we don’t know what happened with the white paper report till date.

"In the light of the above, we want to keep the record straight and we want advise the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, or any committee whatsoever that wants to grant autonomous community to follow due process   and  follow the constitutional
provisions for such.

"We do not need to turn Ebonyi State into a jungle state, whereby any  community that needs autonomy will first carry up arms against their
host communities to kill and maim, destroy properties worth billions of
Naira in order to get a local autonomy.

"By so doing, Ebonyi
State is being used in setting up a bad precedent, not only in South  East geopolitical zone but in Nigeria. But if compensating the
community that kills and destroy their host community with a local autonomy is necessary and that is what the government think is the
best option for them, they should remember the peace loving Amuda community in Effium who has never fight any community in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state by granting us autonomy as well.

"We wish to state that we are fully in support of every peace initiative instituted by the Governor. We stand and support Bishop Michael Okoro
led committee."
