By Ekanem Asuquo

Cross River Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Victor Felix Idem, has asserted that the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration is poised to rehabilitate roads in Local Government councils to engender grassroots development across the State.

Chief Idem gave the assurance when he received members of a Non Governmental Organization known as Alifokpa People's Assembly (APA) during a courtesy visit

He applauded the vision and goals of the group which he noted are geared towards fast tracking the socio-economic development of their community through capacity building and collaborations with government for intervention with regards to basis amenities.

Chief Idem implored the Organization to initiate effective ties with major stakeholders and relevant MDAs at state and federal levels in order to project the needs and challenges of community to the front burner to attract needed attention.

Speaking earlier, the Parish Priest in charge of Mater Ecclesiar Parish Alifokpa Yala, Rev. Fr. Raphael Mose, commended the state government for concerted efforts aimed at ensuring economic development and peaceful coexistence in Yala.

He appealed to the Commissioner to facilitate the construction of their only access road measuring 9. kilometers to boost economic activities

According to the priest, "this Community (Alifokpa) lacks basic amenities, of which access road is of urgent concern, given the agrarian nature of the Community which accounts for over 45 percent of the food supply in Cross River and beyond, the provision of good access roads is of utmost importance to enable our people to convey their farm produce to the neighboring markets to enhance value chain benefits and economic prosperity"

High points of the visit included the presentation of portraits and gifts to the Commissioner by the  group
