C'River SEMA Presents 112 As Toll-free Emergency Response Number

The office of the Director General, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Chief Mrs Angela Ogeyi Odey has activated an emergency response system ahead of the impending flood and other emergencies.
Accordingly members of the public are required to call 112, a toll-free number in case of flood and other emergency situations in the state.
She listed other emergencies to include fire disasters, water misshapes, plane crash, gas explosion, bomb explosion , road accidents, fallen trees and collapsed/ risky buildings amongst other emergencies.
Recall that the DG has recently issued a press statement titled notice of warning of probable flood in CRS.
In that statement, the DG disclosed the reception of information from the National Emergency Agency , NEMA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alerting the state of the possibility of flood occuring in some parts owing to increasing climate variability and resolve by the Cameroon government to open the lagdo dam because of heavy rains this year.
She said from survey and experience the following areas namely, Calabar Municipal, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Odukpani, Yakurr, Yala , Etung, Ogoja, Obubra, Biase, Ikom are at risk.
She enjoined the residents in the affected areas to be alert and called on the media, community leaders, youth organizations to help spread the information.
Meanwhile the DG has called on all those in the critical areas to vacate early enough to avert any casualties.
She said training has commenced to prepare relevant staff towards handling the emergency and disclosed that arrangements for temporal shelter was being done.
