C'River Government Lauds Devpt Partners Humanitarian Efforts At Refugee Camps

The Cross River state government has lauded its collaborative efforts with the Federal government and Development Partners in sustaining the Refugee Camps in the state. Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Helen Isamuo Egodo made the commendation shortly after a Road Walk to mark 2024 World Humanitarian Day in Calabar.
The Commissioner states, "These sustained efforts have not only given succour to both internally displaced persons or those from neighbouring Countries as a result of disputes or natural disasters but accorded the vulnerable in the state a sense of belonging, I want to specifically acknowledge the sacrifice of the Federal government, UNPA, USAID, CSOs and NGOs operating in Cross River.
"The Cross River state government has carried out a lot of humanitarian efforts and Social Welfare packages to salvage the poor and less privileged in the society which is yielding positive results in the affected lives.
"Egodo disclosed. She explained that the World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is a day set aside every year to celebrate Humanitarian Aid workers for their resilience, determination and sacrifice which in most times put their lives at risk to save others.
To kick start the Humanitarian Road Walk in Calabar, the Wife of the Governor, Rev. Mrs, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, represented by her S A Programmes, Mrs Queen Eton and the Wife of the Speaker, Cross River House of Assembly, Mrs Ayambem, dwelt on the need for the people of the state to adopt the First Lady's Pet Project 'Humanity without Border' as a way of sharing with the needy.
Speaking on behalf of humanitarian workers in the state, Assistant Director Procurement, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mr Ekuma Augustine thanked the Prince Otu led administration for celebrating humanitarian workers for the first time and recalled that Cross River has benefited from the sacrifices and services of humanitarian workers alongside development partners in driving humanitarian response.
"We feel elated, excited that it is happening in our time, for the first time ever humanitarian aid workers in the state are celebrated together with our counterparts globally. We are encouraged to work harder."
Ekuma emphasised. The Humanitarian Affairs Boss, Dr. Egodo led a Road Walk from the Millenium Park Calabar through major streets in the metropolis, to create awareness on the importance of Humanitarian service to humanity.
