Liquefied Petroleum Gas also known as Cooking Gas may sell for as high as ₦1500 per Kg in the country if urgent measures are not taken by price regulating bodies, the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (ALPHM) has warned.
The President of Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (ALPGM), Olatunbosun Oladapo disclose that unless the Federal Government takes urgent steps to control the already rising price of gas, the price might hit ₦18,000 for 12.5kg before December.
Oladapo noted that the price rose astronomically at terminals as a result of a sudden increment from between ₦9 - ₦10m per 20 metric ton to ₦14m per 20 metric tons.
According to him, Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) have been hiding under the guise of high foreign exchange to increase gas prices thereby increasing the suffering of the masses.
He revealed that since the NLNG had increased prices of Gas from ₦6 million to ₦8 million, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and terminal owners have also increased their prices to N14m since NNPCL currently takes 59% of the gas produced by the NLNG.
The price rise according to Oladapo would not be the fault of retailers but that of NLNG, terminal owners and the NNPCL.
He lamented that the NNPCL now hide under the guise of being a private company to increase its price.
Presently, a Kg of gas sells for ₦800 minimum and as high as ₦950 in some parts of the country, findings have revealed.
