BREAKING: PDP Loses Another Stronghold as Akwa Ibom Governor Defects To APC

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the announcement on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Government House in Uyo, stating that the decision was made after "three months of wide consultation" with critical stakeholders across the state.
Governor Eno cited his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and the need for Akwa Ibom State to align with the federal government as reasons for his defection.
He assured Akwaibomites that he would continue to work tirelessly for their welfare, regardless of party affiliation.
Receiving the Governor, the state party chairman of the APC Obong Stephen Ntukekpo expressed joy over the defection stating that it was a massive addition to the party as Governor Eno is a performing governor who has shown capacity.
He stated that the he was sure that the defection was not borne out of the fear of re-election because his works speak for him.
The Governor of Imo state and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma while welcoming the Akwa Ibom state Governor on behalf of the progressive governors praised his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) describing Governor Eno as "one of the best and brightest".
Uzodinma characterized the defection as a "movement" towards progress, rather than a mere party switch, emphasizing the party's commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
He assured the people of Akwa Ibom that the APC will work collectively with Governor Eno to achieve this goal, building on the progress made under President Bola Tinubu's leadership
The defection marks a significant shift in the state's politics and the nation at large. With this move, the number of states controlled by the PDP has dropped to ten, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, and Zamfara.
