BREAKING: Otu Proceeds on 3-Week Annual Leave

The Cross River State House of Assembly has granted the state governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, permission to proceed on a three-week annual leave, during which his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, will oversee the affairs of the state in an acting capacity.

In the letter addressed to the Assembly, Governor Otu formally notified lawmakers of his decision to take a break. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, read the letter during plenary, after which the House deliberated and approved the request.

The lawmakers commended the governor’s leadership and wished him a restful and refreshing break. They expressed confidence that he would return with renewed energy to continue driving the state’s development in line with his People First agenda.

Governor Otu’s leave takes effect from March 11, 2025, and is expected to last for three weeks. In his absence, Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey will assume full responsibilities, ensuring continuity in governance.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the administration’s policies and programs, emphasizing that the governor’s strategic leadership remains key to the progress of Cross River State.
