A
ccusations and counter accusations have continued to rattle the All
Progressives Congress APC in Cross River North since the woeful
performance of the former Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, in the Senate election.
Despite the much-taunted federal might and incumbency bragging,
Senator Ayade was roundly beaten by Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe
in the historic poll widely acknowledged as a clear and crystal reflection
of the people's choice.
The latest victim from the fallout is the Utugwang North Ward Chairman of the APC,
Mr. Paul Akpankem, who has been suspended indefinitely from the party by the ward
executive of the party. According to sources, Akpanke was being accused of financial
impropriety bordering on diversion of election funds, high handedness and flagrant
disregard to the party's constitution.
The suspension, signed by ninety members of the ward executive and forwarded to
the Obudu chapter chairman of the party was followed by a vote of no confidence on
the embattled party leader.
Akpanke, whose suspension took effect from Friday June 23,2023, was also blamed for
the abysmal performance of the APC in the last elections as well as his inability to move
the party forward.
