The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime, arresting two suspected armed robbers and recovering a cache of weapons and stolen items in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. According to a press statement today signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation was prompted by a distress call received on March 20, 2025, at around 11:30 pm, reporting an ongoing armed robbery along Nung Udo Idem Ikot Okubo village.
Acting swiftly, tactical teams were mobilized to the scene and trailed the hoodlums to a hotel, where they apprehended two suspects, Louis Joseph Thomas, 23 years old, and Essien Friday Nelson, 27 years old.
A thorough search of the suspects led to the recovery of four locally made pistols, thirty-four live cartridges, one Moniepoint POS machine, two black face masks, two laptops, three Android phones, one button phone, one wristwatch, and one black long-sleeve Special Force polo.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their swift response and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing gang members and recover more weapons.
He said the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid in crime prevention.
