Akamkpa LGA Gets a Face-Lift as NDDC Installs Solar-Powered Street Lights in Iko and Uyanga Communities
By Missang AKPET
In an a bid to enhance adequate security of lives and properties in the state, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has installed solar-powered street lights in Iko and Uyanga communities of Akamkpa local government area in Cross River state.
This provision of basic needs and amenities to rural people of the Niger-Delta region is part of interventionist agency.
The NDDC commissioner representing Cross River, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, says the need to properly light up the communities cannot be overemphasised both as a security measure and as a means to provide lighting.
Orok said the need for the installation of these solar-powered street lights in regions where electricity supply is near zero is strategic as a bid to provide them with a reliable alternative source of energy.
According to him, Uyangha and Iko communities are not the first communities to receive such interventions as Calabar south, Calabar municipality and many other communities have received theirs from the commission.
