By Our Reporter

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics(SSANIP), College of Health Technology,Calabar Branch, has made a passionate appeal to Cross River State Governor,Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu to urgently intervene in the protracted disagreement between the College and the Office of the State Auditor General over the implementation of the new 65 years retirement for workers in educational institutions in Nigeria.

The COHTECH SSANIP Chairman,Comrade Effanga Effiong Archibong and Secretary, Comrade Eni Bassey Usang who both made the appeals while briefing Newsmen over the weekend in Calabar, against the backdrop of the Union's 21 Days Ultimatum issued last week to draw the State Government's attention to the harrowing situations of some of their members who they pointed out, have not received salaries since January 2023 while others have had their names unjustly removed from the State Payroll;described the situation as unacceptable, unfair and unhealthy for the sustenance of the harmonious working relationship between the Union and the State Government.

The Union Leaders maintained that they are worried and very concerned about the untimely retirement of some of their members from the State Service over the 65 years retirement age,a condition which the Union emphasized, have been enjoyed by Non-Teaching Staff of the College since 2016;adding that the action of the State Auditor General was malicious and lamentable.

They further explained that concerted efforts have been made in the last few months to get the State Government's attention to their plights but lamented that these efforts have all fallen on deaf ears and urged Governor Otu to swiftly intervene as a matter of urgency,in order to reinstate the unjustly retired Members,in line with his administration's “People's First" good governance mantra.
