Biase LGA Boss Doesn’t Deserve ‘Best Chairman in Infrastructure’ Award, Says Daniel Egwu

A resident of Okuni Community in Biase Local Government Area, Mr Daniel Egwu has faulted the recent award presented to the Executive Chairman of Biase LGA, Hon. Edodi Eyong, as Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria (Infrastructure), describing it as undeserved.

In a statement made public, Egwu claimed that there is little or no infrastructural development across Biase to justify such recognition, alleging that “there’s nothing to show aside a single borehole in Erei North.”

“I stand to be corrected, but there’s no picture or video anywhere to show that there’s any ongoing or completed project carried out by Hon. Eyong’s administration,” he said.

Egwu further alleged that the chairman has done “nothing tangible despite the huge funds received so far,” adding that he intends to publish the local government’s account statements for public scrutiny in the coming days.

However, he acknowledged that Hon. Eyong has performed well in terms of peace and security, noting his quick response to crises and conflicts in the area. “He deserves a peace-related award, not infrastructure,” Egwu noted.

According to him, the council secretariat fence has remained broken and unrepaired for a long time, exposing government property to the risk of theft and vandalism.

He also commended the chairman for allegedly approving daily allowances for security personnel deployed to maintain peace between the Biakpan and Etono II communities.

Egwu cited another instance where the chairman’s intervention helped prevent a communal clash in his own community, Ehom-Evia, following a leadership dispute.

While appreciating the chairman’s efforts in maintaining peace, Egwu insisted that Hon. Eyong’s record in infrastructure remains poor and does not merit national recognition in that category.
