Arthur Jarvis University Offers Admission To 214 UNICAL Law Students Affected By Departmental Change

The Vice-Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University (AJU), Prof. Joseph Ekpe Edet, has offered admission opportunities to the 214 University of Calabar (UNICAL) students affected by the university’s decision to withdraw them from the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme over admission irregularities.

‎The affected students were recently directed by the management of UNICAL to return to their original departments after an internal review revealed that they were not officially admitted into the Faculty of Law.

‎According to UNICAL, only 221 out of the 435 students in the LL.B II class were properly admitted into the programme, while the remaining 214 students gained entry through departmental transfers, a process the university said does not qualify them to proceed to the Nigerian Law School.

‎

‎Following the directive, the affected students’ portals were temporarily locked to enable the institution to process their transition back to their respective departments. UNICAL also announced measures to cushion the impact, including either refunding their 2025/2026 tuition fees or granting them free tuition for the 2026/2027 academic session in their original departments.

‎

‎However, Prof. Edet has assured the affected students that their ambition of becoming lawyers should not be abandoned, offering them an opportunity to continue their legal education at Arthur Jarvis University’s LL.B programme.

‎He said interested students would be considered for admission into AJU’s Faculty of Law, provided they meet the required academic, admission and regulatory conditions.
