Tree Fall Incident: CRSG Commiserates With Victims, Reveals Plans To Avert Future Occurrence

The Cross River State Government has commiserated with victims of the July 25th tree fall incident that left one dead and others injured.
The State Government through the Ministry of Environment commiserated with the victims when they visited the scene of the incident incident that occurred on Tuesday 25th July, 2023.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Aye Henshaw conveyed the State Government's regret over the natural disaster.
Dr. Aye Henshaw expressed sympathy over the unfortunate incident, while revealing that adequate measures are being put in place to avert future occurrences.
Stressing on the importance of tree planting to human existence, the Permanent Secretary stated that the significance of planting ornamental trees in the state capital cannot be overemphasized owing to the fact that the trees are of enormous benefits which include: urban beautification, supply of oxygen to sustain inhabitants, reduction of ozone levels in the metropolis and absorption of pollutant gasses.
Consequently, a visit to the Calabar Navy Reference hospital was necessitated to ascertain the number of casualties involved, and the report from the hospital confirmed that the victim, one unidentified middle aged man was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital while the driver of the vehicle was admitted at the University of Calabar Teaching hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The incident took place at the Murtala Mohamed Highway, in front of the State Univeral Basic Education Board (SUBEB) premises, Calabar. The Director - Ecology and Biodiversity, Ministry of Environment Mr. Sonigito Ekpe, the Head of Administration, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mr. Martins Alokpa, the Head of operation Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) Mr. Akak Eyo were also present at the scene of the incident for immediate intervention.
