SEMA DG Calls For Proactive Measures To Curtal Fire Outbreaks

The Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency in Cross River, Rev. James Anam has cautioned against the habit of keeping inflammable items at homes warning that such act might likely result in fire disaster.

 The SEMA boss who gave the advice in Calabar while inspecting the scene of a recent fire outbreak at Edibe Edibe by Abua Street stressed that the call has become imperative to checkmate the dangerous practice.

According to him" This is the peak of the dry season which is prone to fire disasters in homes and office apartments but we can always guard against such disaster by being proactive".

"Such vital steps include switching off our electrical appliances during prolonged blackout or whenever we are out except for refrigerators. We must also desist from the habit of keeping petroleum products at homes.

 It's risky" The SEMA DG commiserated with the victims of the inferno assuring them of necessary assistance from the Agency to enable them get back to normal life.

Speaking, the Disaster Management Officer from the Red Cross in Cross River Mr Agbor Oguoba expressed dismay over the incident pledging the readiness of the Red Cross to work in harmony with SEMA in providing succour to the victims.

A residential apartment comprising a total of 11 rooms was burnt down during an early morning inferno. The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown.
