Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk has been appointed patron of the Etung Division of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

The appointment was made known to the Commissioner, recently, during the society's courtesy visit on him in his country home in Ikom.

Speaking, the Chairman of Nigerian Red Cross Society, Etung Division, Mr. Ejor Achu Bissong, congratulated the Health Commissioner, saying his Division is fortunate to have as its patron, while expressing the humanitarian body's readiness to partner with the Ministry of Health on mutually beneficial areas that engender development for the people and State in general.

In his words: "We are happy to identify with you. We trust in your ability to deliver, given your vast wealth of experience, and pledge our preparedness to support and work with you for the betterment of society."

The Chairman sought for consideration of its members for engagement in activities of government such as health interventions, volunteering, community service, among others.

Also speaking, the Society's Secretary, Mr. Cosmas Eba, highlighted Red Cross rich history of humanitarian service in disaster management, emergencies, and volunteerism, and called on the Health Commissioner not to hesitate to call on them should there be a need for their services.

In his response, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk, thanked Etung Division of the Nigerian Red Cross Society for finding him worthy of recognition as patron, and promised to contribute his quota to the development of the body.

"I know Red Cross is about selfless service. We would work with you and support your cause.

"The Governor Bassey Otu-led administration is committed to strengthening healthcare and emergency systems. So organisations such as yours would be needed," he stated.

He concluded with a request of the database of members, specifying their area of competence, in a bid to infuse them into the State Government's health sector revival drive.

Highpoints of the event were the presentation of the Commissioner's portrait to their new patron and a group photograph.
