Gov. Otu Tasks Corps Members On NYSC's Nationalistic Ideals

The Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Otu has charged Corps members to stand on the ideals for which the service was established.

Governor Otu who was speaking at the Swearing-in ceremony of Batch B, Stream Il prospective Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Obubra acknowledged that the scheme has remained a tool for national unity and integration.

Governor Otu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths Development, Comrade Samuel Egbala called on the Corps members to use the mandatory service year to contribute their quota to the socio economic development of the state vis-a-vis the various communities they would eventually be deployed to serve after the orientation.

He tasked them to embark on laudable community projects which will stand them out at the end of the service period.

The governor called on them to use the period of service to make sacrifices to prepare for challenges ahead.

Describing them as compatriots, the governor urged them to do all within their powers to contribute to the growth of the state and participate in all well meaning programmes of government 

He assured them of a conducive atmosphere within which to operate and also ensure that their welfare is given priority.

Earlier in his address the state coordinator, Mr Zemoh Andrew Jebo disclosed that 1601 members were registered by midnight and are settling down to the regimention of camp life.

Mr Jebo said the three weeks orientation course is structured to prepare them for the compulsory one year national service.

He told the Corps Members: "you will be exposed to drills, man-o-war and agility manoeuvres, leadership training, lectures on security and teaching including skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Training Programmes while also receiving instructions on the traditions and culture of the people of Cross River State."

The Coordinator told them that the state expects much from them and charged them to be attentive to all trainings and lectures to better prepare them for life after camp.

He expressed appreciation to the State governor, Senator Bassey Otu, the good people of Ogada, the royal fathers, heads of collaborating Agencies and Management.

They were Sworn-in by Justice Emmanuel Odibu, Judge of the high court, Cross River State.
