The federal government of Nigeria has applauded the Cross River state government for keying into the model concrete pavement initiative in its drive to bringing infrastructural development to the people.
The Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi made the commendation, recently, while on inspection of ongoing rehabilitation of federal roads in the state.
He lauded the Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for the good initiative and advised the replication of same across roads in the state, stressing that he would not regret it.
"The road is beautiful, this is what President Bola Tinubu's administration has been preaching. We cannot continue to do one thing the same way and expect a different result, we are trying to do it differently and we should expect a better result for our roads infrastructure."
Highlighting the benefits of concrete pavement, the Minister said it is durable, cheaper than asphalt, as materials are locally sourced contrary to the asphalt that makes do with importation of bitumen.
He said it would also create opportunities for the teeming population as not lesser than ten companies have indicated interest in opening cement factories and no expatriates involvement, adding that it will create expansion of the existing cement factories in the State.
Further, the Honourable Minister stated that in realisation of the President, Bola Tinubu's Renewed hope agenda aimed at resetting the country, the concrete pavement road infrastructure development will develop the engineering profession by allowing local engineers practice, hence leading to knowledge transfer.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo expressed appreciation to His Excellency, the Minister for creating time to visit Nyong Edem street where the state is constructing a two-kilometer road using concrete.
"As the proponent of modern construction of concrete pavement in Nigeria. We felt that it would be an error to allow you go without seeing that is been implemented in Cross River State."
He prayed for more wisdom and strength for the Minister as he leads the President Bola Tinubu administration's charge for infrastructure development of the nation.
