2027: Constituents To Decide Re-election of NASS Members Not Me, Says Otu

Judex OKORO
Cross River state Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, has stated unequivocally that the re-election of the National Assembly (NASS) in 2027 will be decided by their constituents and not him.
Otu, who debunked the insinuation making the rounds that he is at loggerhead with some NASS members, specifically, Sen. Bassey Asuquo (APC), said he enjoys a high level of relationship with the NASS members as they have attended a good number of state functions.
The governor, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Calabar recently, stated that he maintains a close relationship with leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Otu, however, noted that 2027 is still far to be placed in the front burner, adding that elected officials had better concentrated on delivering on dividends of democracy as the state is in a hurry to develop.
He said: "I hear all kinds of things like you hear, but I think they are all creation of the social media. I don't have any issue with anybody. But my priority remains delivery the dividends of democracy to the people.
"I have no issue with any senator, and I am not qualified to say who will be going back to the NASS or not.
"For me, your work will speak for you. Their constituents will ultimately decide who will come back or not depending on how well they satisfy their people in terms of effective representation," he stated.
The governor, who admitted pockets of issues after the recently concluded local government council elections in the state, stated that some issues raised by the stakeholders are being resolved.
According to him, "yes, we had some persons who were aggrieved over the emergence of candidates for the poll, but we have resolved and also still trying to sort out others.
"You will also agree with me that not everybody was expected to be satisfied with the conduct of the primaries for the election.
"Some of them even opposed our collective decision. But whatever we do is for the people's first. But we will get over all that in November distant time."
