UNICAL: VC Visits MassComm New Site, Charges Contractor On Timely Delivery

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, recently, visited the construction site for Mass Communication Department, with a charge to contractors on effective and timely delivery of the project.

The Vice Chancellor's visit was said to have been carried out to ascertain the progress of work thus far at the site.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice Chancellor commended the Head of the Department, Prof. Chukwuemeka Uzoma Okugo and his team for their support thus far, said the project, when completed, will accommodate the various departments in the new faculty of Mass communication.

"While I commend you as a department for your support thus far, I want to charge the contractor to deliver the job speedily and effectively. We are awaiting the completion and commissioning of this project," Prof. Obi said.

On his part, the Head of the Department, Prof. Uzoma Okugo, lauded the Vice Chancellor for her commitment towards the department, saying, the project upon completion, will be the best of its kind in the entire South-South and South-Eastern Universities in Nigeria.

The elated Head of Department spoke glowingly of the Vice Chancellor's excellence in motivation, support, and leadership. 

According to him, "VC has provided us with a direction that has brought about peaceful coexistence in the department hence, she is an erudite communicator."

The HOD also thanked the Vice Chancellor for her proactive leadership, as the University Senate has graciously granted the department approval to commence postgraduate programmes from October 2023, and for providing the department with great inspiration most recently gathered from her visits to other Universities within and outside the country.

The new building, situated adjacent the University Conference Centre and opposite to the Department of Theatre Arts and Media Studies according to sources in the department, would house a state-of-the-art radio studio, television studio, photo laboratory, newsrooms, conference hall, offices, and other admirable features.
