The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the Edo State September 21 election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has called on party members to prepare for a challenging journey as they work to reclaim what he described as their stolen mandate.

Speaking in Benin, the state capital, at the weekend during the inauguration of the caretaker committee set up by the party’s National Working Committee, Ighodalo emphasised the importance of unity and determination.

He commended the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for his dedication and leadership. “Your focus and determination have been exemplary, and you have led the people rightly,” Ighodalo said, urging the party faithful to remain focused on reclaiming their mandate.

The inauguration saw the formal appointment of the caretaker committee, which is to oversee the party’s affairs until new executives are elected.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi with Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe as Secretary, includes members Harrison Omagbon, Fidel Igenegbale, Chris Nehikhare, Tony Anenih Jnr, Archbishop Anthony Okosun, Segun Saiki, Adezat Ibrahim, and Augustine Edosomwan.

Ighodalo’s charge to the party comes at a time when the PDP is gearing up for legal and political battlesto overturn the September election resultsn.

He stated, “We expect them to reply to our petition next week. We also have five days to reply to their petition. This will take us to about the 19th of November 2024. We will then start what is called the pre-hearing before the major hearing which may start by the end of November.

“Our lawyers are working and are ready to reply to their petition. Times are hard and we are in difficult times; we should stand firm and be strong as we navigate the journey to reclaim our stolen mandate.”
