AHEAD of the Saturday, November 2, 2024 local government elections, the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded arrangements to hold a mega campaign rally in Ogoja.
The rally is scheduled to hold on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Expected at the rally include stakeholders of the party, all State Executive Committee members, all chairmanship and councilorship candidates as well as supporters from across the 18 local government areas of the state.
From the rally ground, the candidates will move into various wards and polling units to canvas for votes.
The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) had cleared all PDP candidates for the council elections.
Speaking ahead of the rally, the State chairman of PDP, Venatius Ikem, Esq, said the party is prepared for the election and is participating in protest.
He called on CROSIEC to not only be objective but an honest umpire rather than being a participant on Saturday council polls.
According to him, "we will mobilise all our supporters to come out and vote and be vigilant and perhaps report any form of infractions that could hinder free and fair contest."
A PDP stalwart from Ogoja, Emmanuel Agba said: "We are in the contest to win even as we fear it may not be a free and fair election. But will do our best and follow up where necessary in terms of challenging the outcome in areas we feel uncomfortable with the outcome.
"I can tell you that we will win some local government areas all things being equal. Just expect surprises."
