Ebonyi: I Remain PDP South East National Vice Chairman, Says Odefa

Judex OKORO

The National Vice Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP) South-East zone, Chief Ali Obasi Odefa, has debunked his purported removal from office, describing it as an effort in futility.

In a press release dated October 5, 2024 and signed by Nwafor Richard Nwali, Media Director, South East PDP, Odefa said some of the signatories to the statement purportedly suspending him are faceless
individuals masquar ending as
ward executives of the party in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi state.

According to him, these individuals, who have failed in their attempts to hijack the structure of our party for selfish political interests, now resorted to causing confusion and dis-affection in the party.

He urged members of the party and the general public to disregard the purported suspension as no such thing happened, stating that he still remains undeterred and focused in the discharge of his functions.

The statement reads in part: "After a federal high court in Abakaliki dissolved the constituted Caretaker Committee (CTC) members in the state some months ago, the Zonal Working Committee of our party in the southeast took leadership to oversee the activities of PDP in Ebonyi state.

No distractions will derail the National Vice Chairman's (Odefa) unwavering efforts to reposition the party in the state and southeast.

"We advise the general public to disregard falsehood spread and funded by an appointee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who does not even reside in the Southeast and another failed lawyer masquerading as PDP members, aimed at causing dis-affection, gaining cheap popularity, and creating uncertainty in the zone.

"We urge our members, supporters, and democracy lovers not to yield to blackmail from individuals whose membership cannot be verified in the People's Democratic Party records in Ebonyi state."

Earlier in a telephone interview with THE BEAGLE NEWS at the weekend, Odefa described his alleged removal as the handiwork of some mischief makers who are hell bent on creating crisis in Ebonyi PDP.

He said the party in the zone is working hard to unit everybody and work towards repositioning it ahead of subsequent elections.

Recall that Ward Executive Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state led by its acting ward chairman, Hebert Ovuta, had suspended  Chief AlibOdefa,  accusing him of anti party activities.

Ovuta said the suspension was in line with the provision of section 57 (3) of the PDP constitution.

He said: “We wish to inform you of the resolution of the Ward Executive Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward to suspend Chief Ali Odefa the National Vice Chairman of the PDP Southeast Zone on the grounds of his anti-party activities and other offences which is destructive to the name of our dear party PDP.

“His suspension is in compliance with provision of section 57(3) of the PDP constitution.

“It is also important to inform you that we have further referred Chief Ali Odefa to the Ward Disciplinary Committee of the party.”
